The Leo Club is the Lions Club youth organization for young people ages 12-18. LEO stands for Leadership – Experience – Opportunity. Leo clubs provide youths in our Mattawan community with an opportunity for development and contribution – individually and collectively – as responsible members of their local, national, and international communities. Leo clubs can help youths develop leadership skills, serve the community and more than anything, have a good time.
Leo clubs are sponsored by the local Lions club through Lions International, the world’s largest community service organization, with 1.3 million members across the globe. The first Leo club was started in 1957 by Glenside Lions Club in Pennsylvania and there are now more than 5,700 Leo clubs in approximately 140 countries.
The Mattawan Leo Club began recruiting members recently at the “Wildcat Bash” at the MHS on Aug. 19, We were also at the MMS Open House on Aug. 25 and 26. As well as the first MHS football game on Aug. 28. We held our first information meeting on September 17 and are getting more students interested in becoming members.
